The Search Walkthrough

Things to notice in the first room:

The only drawer you can open is the top left. You find a metal box which you can't open yet. If you click on the casters you also find out that they are rusted solid.

When you click on the bookcase it will tell you that it should slide to let you into more shelves but it is rusted shut. You need to make a antirust potion to fix it. The angel robe might be in here.

Open the wardrobe and take the matches.

Click on the box on top of the wardrobe. It must tell you something like "I can't reach it."
Maybe stand on something.
The cushion.
Open your inventory and look at the cushion. Click on it and a green paper should appear on the dresser.
Go back to the inventory and click Use for the cushion. Now click on the box on the wardrobe again and the cushion will be put on the ground. You can now click on the box to get a purple note.

With many thanks to moggu, Ragtolin and Po-chan, the purple note says:

Tortoise: I'm next to the bear.
Rabbit: I'm not next to the elephant.
Snake: I'm not on the right side of the tortoise.
Bear: Snake is on one of the edges.
Elephant is on neither edge.
Cat: Elephant is telling a lie.
Elephant: Bear is not the 3rd one from the left.

When you click on the note it says "There is only one animal who's telling the truth. That animal is my favorite animal.". Many thanks to Po-chan for this.

There is a puzzle on the cover of the diary which you have to solve before it will open. The aim is to make a path from the S to the G so that every square is used. You can now click on the diary to read it. You learn that "I love cats". (Thanks Po-chan.) Now you should be able to solve the order of the animals but you wont need it until heaps later so I'll put the solution then.

If you have already clicked on the bookcase, it will tell you that the recipe for the antirust potion isn't there anymore. She threw it away. (Really just guessing here!)

This is a clue for a puzzle later.

This is another clue for the same puzzle. Po-chan explains how to solve it:

The top part of the green papar tells you how to decode the keyword.

←2:ょかべ=こたえ tells you that the correct letters are located 2 letters to the left of the coded letter (wrap at the end of the chart and not counting the blanks) and the sequence of the decoded letters.

I'm not sure, but I think this is just too difficult for non-japanese speakers. Thankfully, Po-chan, Nyago =^^= and Ragtolin together gave solutions which I'll just give when you need it.

Click on the purple bin. You find part of the rustremover recipe (it appears on the desk in the other room).

Now click on the bottom left button to swap screens.

Things to notice in the second room:

There are three keys you can pick up at the moment and two that you can't. Of the three you can get, one is in plain view, one is a little hidden and one is well hidden.
The red key is on the key rack.
The blue key is hiding on the poster.
The green key is in the right hand box in the middle row on the shelf.

Click on the left bottle on the shelf and notice the letter A in the text - this must be potion A.
Click on the right bottle on the shelf and notice the letter B in the text - this must be potion B.

The pink sheet is half of a clue, you'll find the other half later.

On the right wall. Can't do anything with this yet.

Click on the bin and more paper will be added to the pile on the desk. (Graphic doesn't change.)

The desk:
The top middle drawer is locked.
Use a key to unlock it.
Red.
Now you can get the tape.

Open the top side drawer of the desk - you find a coin.

Open the bottom side drawer of the desk and click on the teapot like object. Notice the letter C in the text - you've found potion C.

You need to put this back together so you can make the potion.
Use the tape on the paper to bring up a jigsaw. If this doesn't work, try clicking on *both* bins again. I also found that sometimes it looked like the pieces were in the right place but it didn't register. It's a good idea to move each piece close to where it belongs so you see it "click" into place. When the puzzle is complete, a message should appear. The important information is: A(7) C(2) G(1) and A + G + C = rust remover (from moggu) I expect it also tells you that you need to heat the mixture.

What now?

Now you have the recipe for the rust remover but there are a couple more things you need to find before you can make it.
The recipe calls for potions A, G and C. You've found A and C but not G yet. You also need to find something to mix them in.
Pick up the flasks on the table.

Maybe in that sealed box in the top left drawer of the chest of drawers...
It looks like the lid is screwed on.
Use the coin to unscrew the lid - notice the letter G in the text. Ah! Potion G!

How to make potions.

One thing to note is that the order in which you add the ingredients is important.

Select the flasks from your inventory. Click on bottle A 7 times (left one on the shelf, you can see it counting up in the message field), click on bottle G once (the one in the chest of drawers), click on bottle C twice (desk drawer). You should get a black potion in your inventory.
Place the flask with the black fluid on the stand (have to click accurately). Use the match on the thing beneath to light the burner. After a bit (seems to be on a timer) click on the flask again, the flame should go out and you should have a pink potion appear in your inventory.

This can be used both on the casters of the chest of drawers and on the bookcase. The walkthrough works best if I talk about the chest of drawers here. Note: before doing the next step, double check that you've looked at both the green page on the dressing table and the green book and clicked on the clues till the message bar no longer changes!

Use the rust remover on the caster way down on the bottom left. This will cause the drawers to move forward and you'll find a safe like box in the floor. You need a Japanese phrase to open it which you get from the solution of the green note and green book puzzle.

There are several solutions to this puzzle which were given by Po-chan and by Nyago =^^= and Ragtolin. Unfortunately it looks like the way you have to enter the code varies from system to system. In japanese characters (hiragana), one of the correct phrases is:
ここにはわしのたいせつなものをいれておこう

If you can type japanese character this shouldn't be a problem. Once you've entered the code correctly you should get a new response in the message field (not the question appearing again).

If you can't type in hiragana, first try copying this into the field then hitting ok. If it doesn't work try copying first into a text editor like MS Word then copying and pasting that into the field. If it still doesn't work, try copying and pasting this phrase:
‚±‚±‚ɂ͂킵‚Ì‚½‚¢‚¹‚‚Ȃà‚Ì‚ð‚¢‚ê‚Ä‚¨‚± ‚¤

either straight in or first into Word then into the game. For me it ends up looking like the japanese phrase above. (Some of the characters look a little different which just a case of different fonts.) Make sure you remove any spaces. For some strange reason spaces tend to appear when a japanese phrase is posted in the forum.

If none of these five options work and you're certain you had checked both the note and the book beforehand then you might have a problem. What you need is something which looks exactly like this phrase. Good luck finding a solution. If you work it out, please post how you did it and I'll add it to the walkthrough.

Once you have entered the code correctly, you can go and get the grey key and use it to open the safe. You can now take out a card and check it out in your inventory. It is important to click on the card in the inventory to get the good ending. This tells you a spell that you can use to help the guy with the cursed sword. (Thanks Po-chan!)

Now back to the original goal of getting into the back of the bookcase.

Simply use the pink potion on one of the surfaces of the bookcase. Click on the bookcase again and it should swing aside.

Click on the blue box. She says she thinks this is where she put the angel robe but the box is too high to reach - you need to find something to stand on.

You can also find a key here.
In the right hand green box.

Use the yellow key on the dressing table drawer. You get the second half of the pink note.
Follow the line accross both pieces to work out the order of the numbers. This is the code for the green safe on the other screen.
Use the arrows to bring up the right number then the big button at the bottom to enter them.
36915428
Then use the green key to open the safe. Click on the bottle and notice the F in the text - potion F.

You were also looking for something to stand on to reach the blue box. The chair is the obvious choice. When you click on it, though, it says that the caster is broken - it's too unstable and the wheel needs to be hardened.

There seems to be a lot of potions around... Maybe you can make a hardener....
Look in the spell book (the red book with 10 on the spine). You can now open this book - it gives you the recipies for potions D, E and Z, it then says you should cool potion Z with something in one of the cardboard boxes in order to make the hardener. (If you can't open this book, try clicking on the blue box and then on the chair then trying again.)

D: the first line tells you you need B then G, I took the 10 in the second line to mean you need 10 drops overall. For a non-Japanese reader there is no ratio information so I took a guess at 50:50.
Add 5 drops of B the 5 drops of G. Voila! Potion D appears in your inventory

E: Again, I assumed you needed 10 drops altogether. Based on the answer, I'm guessing the second line means you need 4 times as much D as A.
8 drops of D and 2 of A
To do this, click on the empty flasks and then Use. Then click on potion D to bring up the picture of the orange potion, then click on it to add D to your empty flask. You should see the usual messages so you can tell you're adding it. Then add A as usual. No heating required. E appears in your inventory.

Z: Here I had to simply use the formula given by Ragtolin: F2 + D10 + E5. I have no idea how this relates to the clues on the page. If you mix this then heat you get Z. Click on it after it's heated for a while and it will go into your inventory.

If you make a mistake mixing a potion, I've found if you heat it a while then click on it, it will disappear and you can start again. It also seems to be possible to overload the flask with a potion and it will be rejected and let you start again. (This is quicker.)

Potion Z can then be used on the large cardboard box beside the chair. This gives a khaki coloured potion that appears below the pink one in the inventory. (This is the hardening potion shown in the book.) Maybe the box is full of ice that cools potion Z or something.

You can then use your hardening potion on the chair and pick it up.

Simply use the chair (which is now in your inventory) and put itin front of the bookcase (click on the floor of the bookcase in front of the blue box).

NOTE: You need to have got into the safe behind the chest of drawers an have had a look at the card you get out of it before you do this next bit or you will get the bad ending - you wont be able to help the guy.

Here you find the puzzle about the animals which you came accross right at the start. You just need to put the animals in the right order
Tortoise Snake Bear Cat Rabbit Elephant

Finally you can use the blue key on the lock enjoy the endscene.

Thanks to Aurora for this walkthrough.
